Renaissance would like to announce several new staff members who have recently joined our growing team:

Kathy Galvin, FAIA

Kathy Galvin, FAIA has rejoined Renaissance as a Design Principal in our Charlottesville, VA office. Her history with Renaissance stems back to the first decade of the company’s formation. She served as Renaissance’s Lead Architect and Urban Designer on award-winning projects, such as the Crozet and Places 29 Master Plans in Albemarle County, Old Trail Village in Crozet, a form-based code for the Town of Orange, and the Eastern Planning Initiative. Throughout her distinguished and multidisciplinary career as an architect, urban designer, educator, planner, and elected official, Kathy has displayed a passionate commitment to creating just, healthy, and beautiful places for all people. Her areas of expertise include land use and transportation planning, design and development, comprehensive and master plans, urban design guidelines and zoning (inclusive of form-based codes,) and transit-oriented development.

For over 15 years, Kathy was an Adjunct Professor at the University of Virginia, where she taught neighborhood design. Kathy served as a Charlottesville City Councilor from 2012-2019 and a City School Board Member from 2008-2020. While in office, she worked directly with communities to create more sustainable neighborhoods and public buildings; implement multimodal transportation systems into city infrastructure; and rework zoning laws to reflect community values.

Kathy’s exceptional contributions to the architecture field are well-known among industry leaders. In December of 2021, she was inducted in the American Institute of America (AIA) College of Fellows – a distinction held by only three percent of AIA members. Congratulations, Kathy, for this well-deserved honor!

We are excited to have Kathy’s passion and expertise back on the Renaissance team. As Design Principal, she is building depth into our urban design practice, while bringing strategic public policy, sustainability, and design leadership to all our project efforts. With her multi-disciplinary background in planning, architecture, urban design, and elected office, Kathy deftly guides our clients on the transformation of place through policies, plans, design, and visualizations, resulting in sustainable, equitable communities. Ultimately, her advisory role is amplifying Renaissance’s mission: using a holistic approach to improve the built environment for the common good.

Autumn Young

Autumn Young is a Project Manager in Renaissance’s Tampa, FL office. Like Kathy, Autumn has a long working relationship with Renaissance, having served as one of the client points of contact on our Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Four contracts. At FDOT, she led two different programs in the planning and modal development offices. Autumn’s FDOT experience ranged from change management, multimodal trends tracking, policy implementation, grant writing, data collection and analysis, project development and public engagement techniques.

At the beginning of her career, Autumn started a successful family business in the construction industry before pivoting to the transportation sector. She started out as a TSM&O intern with FDOT District Four, worked for Spirit Airlines implementing FAA regulatory compliance protocols as a crew train scheduler, and eventually returned to FDOT for 5 years.

Autumn’s work focuses on contract management, data visualization, strategic plan development, and multi-jurisdictional coordination. With freight planning experience at the local, regional, and statewide levels, Autumn understands how to effectively translate project needs across public agencies, communities, and private sector organizations to ensure well-developed plans lead to implemented change. She excels at bringing key stakeholders to the table and facilitating meaningful consensus building that drives successful community-based projects. As a Project Manager, she is using her superb interpersonal skills, deep understanding of transportation needs in Florida, and blend of private and public sector experience to lead Renaissance projects that deliver real-world value to our Florida communities.
