MLK JR. Boulevard Bus Rapid Transit Design

Town of Chapel Hill, North Carolina

MLK BRT Upscaled

Chapel Hill Transit partners are conducting the first phase of design on a bus rapid transit (BRT) project for a heavily traveled eight-mile corridor, connecting residential areas to the University of North Carolina, hospitals, and downtown. The North-South BRT (NSBRT) will supplement traditional bus services and support town transit priorities – providing high-quality, fare free service to residents, commuters, and students. Renaissance is supporting the prime contractor to build public awareness, engage the public, implement outreach, and react to stakeholder input for this phase of the project. This work includes coordinating a robust social media campaign, conducting innovative outreach efforts, and connecting with a broad cross-section of community stakeholders.

Renaissance is specifically responsible for:

  • Supporting preparation of a Public Involvement Plan

  • Supporting the development of project branding

  • Managing project social media, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram

  • Creating and distributing materials for engagement such as flyers, mailers, and door hangers

  • Planning and facilitating public meetings and other outreach events, including a combination of onsite outreach and speaking engagements and preparation of announcements, presentations, display boards, interactive materials, notes, and capturing comments; and

  • Supporting the collection, summarization, and responses to comments and feedback.
